Who is Lexi Rankin?
Lexi Rankin is the owner, trainer and head rider at Rank Equine, a 110-acre performance horse ranch near Jacksboro, Texas. She is a champion barrel racer who qualified for the 2021 BBR World Finals in Oklahoma City, competes in UPRA rodeos, and made the final 15 at the UPRA rodeo in Eastland, Texas on May 7, 2021 — running against three-time world champion Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi on national television.
Where is Rank Equine located?
Rank Equine is at 7072 US Hwy 281 South, Jacksboro, TX 76458 — on the south side of Jacksboro between Jacksboro and Perrin in Jack County, North Texas, and about an hour northwest of Fort Worth. It is a private ranch; visits are by appointment.
Do you take horses from out of state?
Yes. Rank Equine takes barrel horses for training and boarding from anywhere in the country — horses have already been hauled in from as far away as Alabama. Texas requires every horse entering the state to have a current Coggins (EIA) test and a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI). Call Lexi at 817-600-3575 to plan your horse’s arrival.
Does Rank Equine give barrel racing lessons to kids?
Yes. Lexi especially loves working with young girls who are learning about horses and barrel racing. Lessons start with safety, balance and horsemanship fundamentals, then build toward the barrel pattern and speed as the rider is ready. Private lessons and small-group sessions are available for youth, college and adult riders.
What kinds of barrel horse training do you offer?
Tune-ups for seasoned horses, starting colts (typically 2–4 year olds) on the barrel pattern, and corrective work for problem barrel horses — for example horses that hesitate at the first barrel, run flat in the turn, or leave the alley inconsistently. Every program is built around the horse’s current level, soundness and goals.
Do you offer horse boarding?
Yes. Choose self-care boarding with 24/7 access to your horse, full-care boarding where Rank Equine handles the daily care, or a hybrid of the two. The ranch has 60×60-foot outdoor pens with 12×12-foot shelters and a 200×400-foot outdoor pen with a shelter.
How much does barrel horse training cost?
Training and boarding are priced to the horse and the program, so Lexi quotes after a short conversation about your horse. Call or text 817-600-3575 or book a call online for current rates and openings.
How long does a barrel horse tune-up take?
It depends on the horse. Some horses only need a short, focused session before a big weekend; others need a few weeks to rebuild a habit. Lexi will tell you honestly which one your horse is after she sees it work.
Can you fix a barrel horse that hesitates or runs past the first barrel?
Often, yes. Lexi checks the basics first — tack fit, soundness and balance — then simplifies the plan and rebuilds the habit with short, repetitive, confidence-building work. The goal is to fix the cause so the result sticks, not chase a quick fix.
Do I need my own horse for barrel racing lessons?
Riding your own horse means what you learn carries straight home. If you don’t have a horse yet, ask Lexi about options when you call.
My child has never ridden. Is that okay?
Yes. Beginners start with a foundation plan — ground manners, balance and basic control — and only add speed when they’re ready.
What paperwork does a horse need to enter Texas?
The Texas Animal Health Commission requires every horse entering Texas to have a valid certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI, or health certificate) and a current EIA (Coggins) test before entry. Your vet can issue both. Rules can change, so confirm with your vet or the TAHC permits line (512-719-0777) before you haul.
How far is Rank Equine from Fort Worth and the DFW airport?
The ranch is on US Hwy 281 South in Jacksboro, about an hour northwest of Fort Worth, which makes it practical for owners who fly into DFW to visit their horse or ride with Lexi.
Can I ride my horse whenever I want?
Self-care boarders have 24/7 access, and all boarders are welcome to visit and ride on their own schedule. The ranch is private, so first visits are by appointment.
What bloodlines does Rank Equine breed?
The program focuses on proven barrel racing bloodlines and on foals eligible for incentives such as Pink Buckle and Ruby Buckle. Bloodlines in our program include names like Adios Pantalones, Dash Ta Fame and Frenchmans Guy; ask Lexi about current matings.
Where are breeding procedures done?
All medical procedures — pre-breeding evaluations, artificial insemination, pregnancy checks, ultrasound and health certificates — are performed at partner equine veterinary clinics by licensed veterinarians.
